Explore how we get our honey to you

From hive to table

Step 1 — Beekeeping

Spring

The bees are coming out of their winter hibernation and use their honey stores to start building brood, this is the time to check bee health and conduct our specialized queen breeding programme.

Summer

The Blue Borage flowers are out! Its time to get the boxes on for the bees to fill with this season’s honey. Once full the boxes are collected to be extracted.

Autumn

Its time to put the bees to bed for the winter, we ensure the bees have enough of their natural stores and are healthy enough to get through winter.

Winter

The bees are left alone in the depth of winter healthy and with boxes of honey, to ensure they will last througouht their hibernation in the mountains.

Step 2 — Harvesting & Processing

Supering Up

Empty boxes (honey supers) are put on hives in December ready to be filled with Blue Borage Honey

Harvesting

Once the honey supers are full we harvest the boxes from the hives, leaving enough honey for the bees to last trhough winter into next spring.

Extraction

Honey is processing on site in our MPI registered foodsafe facility. The first step of processing is uncapping the honey, followed by spinning and then wax separation

Keeping it Raw

We have strict temperature controls in place to ensure our honey remains raw and pure.
